What is General Ocular Care?

The human eye is extremely complex and fascinating. Some of the most intricate neurological tissue can be found inside the eye and researchers now believe that the nerve tissue may be a continuation of the brain, modified through evolution to directly accept sensory stimuli. Fortunately through decades of research and study, physicians and researchers have been able to study the human eye and the many illnesses that can present over the course of our lives.

There are currently many ways to evaluate the eye. Just like when a patient goes to their primary doctor and gets the weight, heart rate, blood pressure, etc checked- so too, there are ways to evaluate the eye in order to determine how and if any illnesses are present. There are five main ways your ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) will be able to examine your eye and they are:

  1. Your Vision
  2. Eye Pressure (pressure of the fluid inside the eyes)
  3. Movements of the Eyes
  4. Pupils of the eyes
  5. Confrontation Visual Fields (field of vision in all directions)

Along with these five things, there are other important aspects to the full exam such as color vision, Gonioscopy, Optic Nerve evaluation, Macular integrity, etc. Although these terms may seem complicated, you can rest assured that our team of specialists will meticulously evaluate your eyes in order to provide you with the best care regarding these and other General Eye Care reasons for visit:
